Island Peak

Eric Shipton named the peak Island Peak because it looks like an island in a sea of ice.
In 1983 it was renamed in Imja Tse, but Island Peak is still the more popular name.
The mountain was first climbed by a British team as training for Mount Everest.

You must get up early to reach the summit (6173 meter).
The first part of the trail is a steep but unproblematic scree slope, later you cross a glacier.
Before you reach the ridge which leads to the summit you have to pass a 60° steep slope which
is secured with fixed ropes.
